Youngest Army Sergeant to Achieve 100 Blood Donations
Corporal Lee Dong-wook of the 36th Infantry Division of the Army is making his 100th blood donation on the 29th at the Blood Donation Center in Wonju, Gangwon Province.

According to the Army on the 30th, Corporal Lee Dong-wook (21) of the 36th Infantry Division reached 100 blood donations on the 29th of this month and received the Red Cross Blood Donation Merit Honor from the Korean Red Cross.
According to the Blood Management Headquarters of the Korean Red Cross, Corporal Lee is the youngest recipient of the Blood Donation Merit Honor among Korean citizens. The Korean Red Cross awards a silver medal for 30 donations, a gold medal for 50 donations, an honor medal for 100 donations, an honor grand medal for 200 donations, and the highest honor grand medal for 300 donations.
Corporal Lee started donating blood in high school after seeing his parents consistently donate blood since childhood. He received the silver medal from the Korean Red Cross in 2016 when he was a high school senior and the gold medal in 2018 while serving in the military.
Last year, his father Lee Min-beom (54) received the highest honor grand medal for 318 blood donations, and his mother Lee Hee-young (48) received the honor medal for 102 donations. His older brother Lee Dong-gyu (25) also received the gold medal last year for 51 donations, making the total blood donations by the family 571. The 36th Division plans to award Corporal Lee a commendation from the division commander.

Corporal Lee said, "I am grateful to my parents who taught me the importance of sharing life from an early age," and added, "I will inform my fellow soldiers about the importance of blood donation so that we can save lives through active blood donation."
