Daejeon Hit by 'Water Bomb', Chaos Ensues... Up to 200mm More Expected in Chungcheong Region

View original image[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Heavy rain has been falling in the Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungnam regions, causing continuous damage. In particular, some apartment complexes in parts of Daejeon were flooded, and many vehicles parked within the complexes were submerged.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration as of 7 a.m. on the 30th, heavy rain warnings have been issued for all areas of Daejeon and Sejong, as well as Gyeryong and Nonsan in Chungnam. Heavy rain advisories are in effect for Seocheon, Buyeo, Geumsan, and Gongju in Chungnam.
As of 7:20 a.m., the accumulated rainfall by region was highest in Munhwa-dong, Daejeon at 150 mm, followed by Seonggeo, Cheonan at 118 mm, Gyeryong, Chungnam at 98.5 mm, Jeonui, Sejong at 95.5 mm, Songak, Asan at 90.5 mm, and Nonsan at 88.5 mm.
Due to the heavy rain, some apartment complexes in Jeongnim-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon were flooded, causing damage to vehicles parked there.
Additionally, a landslide occurred in Busa-dong, Jung-gu, prompting the Daejeon city government to send emergency disaster messages to nearby residents urging caution for their safety.
The number of locations with flood warnings due to rising river levels is also increasing. The Geumgang Flood Control Office issued a flood warning at Wonchon Bridge on Gapcheon River in Daejeon, and flood advisories at Mannyeon Bridge on Gapcheon River and Chungmu Bridge on Gokgyocheon River in Asan.
Daejeon city has completely closed all sections of local underpasses due to river flooding, blocked access to three underground passages including Wolpyeong, Gapcheon, and Daejeon Station, and restricted vehicle traffic on Anyounggyo Bridge in Jung-gu and Geumgokgyo Bridge in Bonggok-dong, Seo-gu.
Furthermore, some railway tracks passing through Daejeon Station have been submerged by rainwater, causing delays in train operations including KTX. The trains delayed due to track flooding include both directions of the Gyeongbu Line, as well as the Honam and Jeolla Lines in both directions.

Meanwhile, the Korea Meteorological Administration forecasts an additional 50 mm to 150 mm of rain on average, with a maximum of 200 mm, expected until 9 a.m. on the 31st in the Chungcheong region including Daejeon.
