Woori Technology "CGO Achieves Korea's First Offshore Wind Power Facility Dismantling and Maintenance Success... Benefiting from Green New Deal"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Our Technology affiliate CGO has proven its outstanding technological capability in offshore wind power by successfully dismantling an offshore wind observation meteorological tower using its own technology for the first time in Korea. According to the company, dismantling offshore meteorological towers has been led by global specialized companies due to the high technical difficulty involved.
Our Technology announced on the 23rd that CGO successfully dismantled a 130-meter-high ultra-high offshore wind observation meteorological tower located on the sea surface in the southwestern region of Jeju using its own technology.
The meteorological tower dismantled this time was a facility installed by Daejeong Offshore Wind Power in 2012 and operated for eight years. Due to aging, dismantling was decided. CGO completed the dismantling and maintenance using its own technology by mobilizing a fleet of five medium to large vessels, including offshore cranes.
Offshore meteorological towers are facilities that must be installed in offshore wind farms. They are used to collect meteorological information such as wind speed and wind direction, which are essential for reviewing the feasibility and obtaining permits for offshore wind power projects.
An official from Our Technology said, “Although many offshore meteorological towers have been operated since the completion of ‘Haemosu No.1’ in the Buan Yeonggwang area in 2011, this is the first case of successful dismantling using domestic technology.” He added, “Through this dismantling, CGO has become the only domestic company to systematically acquire experience and know-how for the entire process of offshore wind power systems, including transportation, installation, maintenance, and dismantling.”
He continued, “With the government’s recent Green New Deal policy, the scale of offshore wind power is expected to increase about 100 times from 125 megawatts in 2030 to 12 gigawatts. Based on its technological capability and experience in offshore wind power, CGO will be able to play a leading role in the growth of domestic offshore wind power.”
