IEL Science Acquires 'Sangmin Lee Shampoo' AHEADS... Strengthening Scalp and Hair Care Market Strategy
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Smart optical solutions company IL Science announced on the 21st that it signed a contract to acquire 51% of the shares of Ahez, a scalp and hair care specialist company, at the IL Science headquarters located in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do.
Through this contract, IL Science secured all rights to the product lineup, patents, trademarks, and more held by Ahez. Based on this, IL Science plans to actively target the hair loss prevention market.
Ahez is a functional brand that pursues healthy scalp and hair care through patented manufacturing methods and the use of natural surfactants. Its representative product line is the ‘Ahez Premium Hidden Therapy,’ also known as the ‘Sangmin Lee Shampoo,’ which has been loved by consumers. Last year, its sales and operating profit were approximately 14 billion KRW and 1 billion KRW, respectively. Sales grew by 188% compared to the previous year.
IL Science’s strategy is to further strengthen its scalp and hair care business capabilities using Ahez’s patented and core technologies specialized in alleviating hair loss symptoms. In particular, IL Science also owns its subsidiary IL Bio (formerly Mineral Science Institute). They expect synergy effects through joint technology development and sales and marketing collaboration with Ahez.
Song Seong-geun, CEO of IL Science, said, “With this acquisition made ahead of the launch of the microcurrent LED scalp care device ‘FOLLINIC,’ we have enhanced our brand portfolio and expertise.” He added, “We will continue to strive to become a brand that understands and fulfills the needs of the ten million people in Korea who worry about hair loss.”
