Seodaemun-gu, Safety Inspection of Outdoor Advertisements for Rainy Season and Typhoon Preparedness
Check the Fixation Status, Damage, and Corrosion Level of Building Exterior Wall Signs
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) conducted safety inspections of outdoor advertisements and removed related illegal facilities from April to June this year in preparation for the summer monsoon and typhoons.
The inspections covered rooftop signs, wall-mounted signs, projecting signs, pole signs, and designated bulletin boards. The removals targeted illegal banners, sandwich boards, and balloon signs (air lights) that threatened pedestrian passage and safety.
During this period, the district conducted safety inspections at a total of 396 locations within the area, removing 2,580 illegal banners, 192 banners, and 53,472 posters and flyers, totaling 53,472 items.
In particular, the fixed condition, damage, and corrosion of building exterior signs were checked, and if there was a risk of falling, advertisers and building owners were advised to repair or replace them to protect citizens.
The district will continue to operate the "Illegal Advertisement On-site Crackdown Team" even after this inspection. Balloon signs are immediately collected upon discovery due to the risk of electrical safety accidents, and fines are imposed.
The Seoul Seodaemun-gu Outdoor Advertisement Association Disaster Prevention Team also conducts continuous patrols. Last September, the Disaster Prevention Team carried out volunteer activities in preparation for Typhoon Lingling, preemptively repairing and removing 21 dangerous signs in the district.
