Groundbreaking Ceremony for Public Parking Lot at Namhyeon Small Park, Gwanak-gu
Current Namhyeon-dong No.1 Public Parking Lot Site... 12.7 Billion KRW Invested for Aboveground Park and Underground Public Parking Lot Construction
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) announced on the 7th that it has commenced construction of the Namhyeon Small Park public parking lot, which combines a park and parking facilities.
The site in question is the current Namhyeon-dong No. 1 public parking lot (Namhyeon-dong 1063-1), covering an area of 1,607㎡. A total project cost of 12.7 billion KRW, including 6.5 billion KRW from the city and 6.2 billion KRW from the district, will be invested to create a park on the ground level and a public parking lot with 97 spaces from basement level 1 to basement level 3.
A district official explained, “In 2014, Seungbangdol Park located in Namhyeon-dong was sold, creating a need for a replacement park. In 2015, the urban planning proposal was decided to build a park on the ground and a public parking lot underground on the current site of Namhyeon-dong No. 1 public parking lot.”
Furthermore, the district passed the Seoul City investment review in October 2017, the Seoul City small park review in January 2019, the Cultural Heritage Administration’s heritage review in November, and the Seoul Regional Land Management Office’s small-scale underground safety evaluation, and commenced construction on this day.
The Namhyeon Small Park public parking lot is scheduled to be completed in December 2021 and is expected to greatly contribute to alleviating parking difficulties near Sadang Station, which has a high flow of people, as well as improving residents’ quality of life by providing cultural and recreational spaces.
Under the goal of “Top Transportation” during the 7th elected term, Gwanak-gu is pushing forward public parking lot projects to resolve parking difficulties in residential areas and create a pleasant parking environment, achieving significant results.
Last July, the district built a complex facility with 151 parking spaces and sports facilities coexisting on the site of Seoul Gwanak Elementary School, spanning from basement level 2 to the 4th floor above ground.
This project solved the chronic shortage of parking spaces in the area, improved indoor sports environments for students, and opened the sports facilities for local residents to use, thereby enhancing community cultural welfare and achieving more than triple benefits.
Also, in December of the same year, the district expanded the number of spaces at Samsung-dong No. 2 public parking lot from 52 to 73, resolving illegal parking issues on side streets caused by parking shortages and creating a safe and pleasant pedestrian environment.
This year, the district plans to complete the construction of the Nangok-dong No. 2 public parking lot and the Jungang-dong small public parking lot.
In addition, various projects are underway to supply more than 200 public parking spaces annually, including ▲ construction of Sangdo Neighborhood Park parking lot ▲ Inheon High School complex project ▲ Singwan Middle School complex project ▲ construction of Gang Gam-chan-daero public parking lot ▲ construction of underground public parking lot on the site of the relocated Geumcheon Police Station ▲ construction of smart public parking lot in Nangok-dong urban regeneration area.
Going forward, Gwanak-gu plans to continuously create public parking lots by acquiring land in residential areas, school complex projects, and utilizing parks, aiming to drastically improve local parking difficulties and enhance residents’ quality of life through a pleasant environment.

Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “I hope the creation of the Namhyeon Small Park public parking lot will solve the shortage of parking spaces near Sadang Station, which has a large flow of people, and become another resting place where residents can comfortably meet and relax along with the nearby Namhyeon Art Garden. We will continue to do our best to create a ‘Top Transportation’ environment through the expansion of public parking lots in the area and make Gwanak an even better place to live.”
