‘Hampyeong 5-Day Market’ Temporarily Closed on 7th... Cattle Market Closed Until 21st
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] The ‘Hampyeong 5-Day Market’ will be temporarily closed for one day on the 7th.
Hampyeong County announced on the 6th that it has decided to temporarily close the ‘Hampyeong 5-Day Market,’ a representative traditional market in the region, for one day on the 7th to prevent the local spread of COVID-19.
This closure follows the first confirmed COVID-19 case in the area on the 4th and the Jeonnam Province’s upgrade of its quarantine level to Social Distancing Level 2.
Along with this, the Hampyeong U (Cow) Market will also be temporarily closed from the 7th to the 21st.
As COVID-19 community infections are spreading in the metropolitan area, Gwangju Metropolitan City, and neighboring cities and counties in Jeonnam Province, the county aims to preemptively block the spread of local infections caused by the influx of outside populations.
Going forward, the county plans to monitor the COVID-19 situation and decide on reopening or extending the closure period accordingly.

A county official stated, “Given the first confirmed case in the region, it was unavoidable to decide on this closure since the market, where many unspecified people mainly conduct cash transactions, cannot be opened.” He added, “This decision is for the safety of my family and neighbors, so we ask for the understanding of market merchants, livestock farmers, and local residents.”
