[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Hee-eun Park] The number of daily new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in Tokyo, Japan, has exceeded 100 for three consecutive days.
Tokyo Metropolitan Government announced on the 4th that 131 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed. This is the highest number of new cases since the state of emergency was lifted on May 25.
On the 2nd (107 cases) and 3rd (124 cases), the daily confirmed cases also exceeded 100, marking three consecutive days over 100 cases.
The daily number of confirmed cases in Tokyo dropped below 100 after May 2 (154 cases) during the state of emergency period, but has recently been on the rise.
The average daily number of new confirmed cases in the Tokyo area over the past week is 85.8. This surpasses the alert issuance criterion (20 cases) initially set by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
It is understood that recently, infections in the Tokyo area have been spreading mainly among host club workers and customers in entertainment districts.
