When You Open the Apartment Door, the Robot Says "Delivery Has Arrived"
Baemin 'Dilly Tower', Korea's First Delivery Service in Apartment Complex
On the first floor of an apartment building in Seoul, a delivery rider approaches the delivery robot 'Dilly' installed on the first floor and hands over the ordered food. Loaded with the food, Dilly moves autonomously and calls the elevator. Without a person pressing the button, it travels to the floor where the customer lives and accurately finds the customer's home. Upon receiving a food arrival text, the customer enters a four-digit personal code on Dilly's screen and receives the ordered food.
This scene of a robot delivering food in an apartment will become a reality in February next year. Woowa Brothers, the operator of 'Baedal Minjok,' announced on the 2nd that they signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Hanwha Engineering & Construction for a robot delivery service and will install and operate the indoor autonomous delivery robot 'Dilly Tower' at Hanwha Engineering & Construction's new residential complex 'Forena Yeongdeungpo.'
Dilly Tower is an indoor autonomous delivery robot that can deliver food or goods to the location of the customer using multiple pre-input travel routes. When floor-to-floor movement is required, it calls the elevator and can get on and off by itself, notifying the customer of its arrival via text and phone call. Forena Yeongdeungpo consists of three buildings with five basement floors and 30 above-ground floors, comprising 182 apartment units and 111 officetel rooms. When a rider places food into the Dilly Tower installed on the first floor of the apartment and inputs the order information, the Dilly Tower will deliver it to the individual units. Considering the number of floors and units, Dilly Tower can make up to six deliveries per hour. If residents show high satisfaction with the pilot service, both companies plan to discuss full-scale commercialization.
Woowa Brothers expects that as the introduction of Dilly Tower increases, it will not only enhance convenience for customers who prefer contactless delivery but also assist riders who have faced difficulties delivering to high-rise apartment buildings. The waiting time for building entry or elevator boarding will be eliminated, allowing riders to work more efficiently and comfortably. In fact, during the pilot service of Dilly Tower conducted last October at Woowa Brothers' headquarters building in Bangi-dong, Songpa, which has 19 floors above ground, the delivery time for riders was reduced by 5 to 16 minutes compared to before.

Yoon Hyun-jun, head of the new business division at Woowa Brothers, said, "Until now, riders have often faced difficulties due to the high security and complex building structures of apartments and other multi-family housing, which ultimately increased delivery times. Starting with this pilot service, we plan to expand the supply of Dilly to multi-family housing and begin pilot services in hotels and offices as well."
