[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] On the afternoon of the 2nd, the Korean National Police University held an academic seminar jointly with the 'Police Gender Research Association,' a gender equality research group within the police organization, at the Police Agency Training Center in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, to promote a culture of gender equality within the police force.
The Police Gender Research Association was established in 2018 by active female police officers who voluntarily participated, actively expanding the network of female officers and voicing opinions for institutional and practice improvements.
This seminar was held under the theme "Female Police Officers (女警): Not as Leftover Police (餘警) but as Exemplary Police (如警)," with about 50 participants including active police officers, scholars, and journalists.
Three presenters gave talks on the following subtopics: ▲ The reality and issues of online female police officer hatred (Kang Seung-yeon, Women and Juvenile Affairs Division, Seoul Police Agency) ▲ Gender-blind policing policies and the status of female police officers (Joo Myung-hee, Audit Division, Seoul Police Agency) ▲ A study on the gender-segregation practices within the police organization (Kim Ye-ram, Korean National Police University). This was followed by a discussion on gender issues surrounding female police officers within the police organization.
