Choi Hyung-sik, Damyang County Governor, 2 Years of the 7th Elected Term... Achievements and Future County Administration Directions Presented
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Choi Hyung-sik, former mayor of Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do, presented the achievements of the past two years of the 7th local government and the future direction of county administration on the 2nd.
Mayor Choi Hyung-sik stated that the 7th local government, which started vigorously to realize the goal of a happy city Damyang where the lives of residents change, has reached the halfway point, and the past two years have focused on the steady promotion of pending projects and improving the quality of life of residents.
In particular, through active investment attraction, investment agreements were signed with 24 companies worth 82.3 billion KRW, employing 368 people, and over two years, 51 public contest projects were selected, securing project funds of 184.8 billion KRW.
Mayor Choi cited as major achievements ▲ the completion of the ‘6th Industry Innovation Agricultural Support Center’ and the establishment of ‘Damyang Mall’ to strengthen non-face-to-face distribution infrastructure ▲ the completion of the ‘Advanced Cultural Complex’ that will change the map of Damyang ▲ revitalization projects of the old downtown such as Damju Damidam Art District and Haedong Cultural Arts Village to promote local economic vitality ▲ and signing investment agreements with 24 companies worth 82.3 billion KRW and employing 368 people through active investment attraction.
First, to strengthen the competitiveness of the core local industry, agriculture, the ‘6th Industry Innovation Agricultural Support Center’ was completed, and the establishment of an agricultural chamber for policy promotion designed directly by farmers is also in the final stages.
Mayor Choi said, “For Damyang agriculture to be competitive, it is necessary to secure consumer trust through thorough eco-friendly hygienic farming and hygienic livestock practices,” adding, “We will recognize the potential of the agricultural sector such as multi-industry agriculture, strengthening non-face-to-face online distribution infrastructure, and producing safe agricultural products free from animal and plant viruses, and lead the market with agricultural policies.”
Also, the old downtown revitalization project of Damyang, themed on ‘culture-based urban regeneration,’ is gradually showing results, raising expectations for revitalizing the stagnant local economy.
The Haedong Cultural Arts Village project has become a space for artists from Gwangju and Jeonnam after the first phase, and the ‘Sseudam-gil’ section of the Damju Damidam Art District project, which aims to turn the streets around the traditional market into a cultural and artistic hub, is also nearing completion, promising to establish a new aspect of Damyang as a cultural ecological city through the settlement of young merchants and cultural artists.
The county expects that with the full-scale implementation of projects such as the ‘Traditional Market Modernization Project’ and the ‘Dambitdamru Creation Project,’ the connectivity with existing tourist spots represented by ‘Juknokwon-Gwanbangjerim-Metasequoia Road’ will be strengthened, establishing a new growth engine that revitalizes the economy.
