Gwanak-gu All Staff and Community Leaders Conduct Intensive Disinfection Activities for Two Weeks
Operation of 'Intensive Quarantine Week' until the 10th, with participation of about 1,770 people including employees, community leaders, and university part-timers; focused disinfection of shared bicycles, exercise equipment, bus stops, subway station areas, and resident awareness campaigns
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is operating an “Intensive Quarantine Week” to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), stepping up more rigorous on-site quarantine measures.
The purpose is to prevent sporadic COVID-19 infections that can occur anytime and anywhere by thoroughly disinfecting facilities closely related to residents' daily lives.
The Intensive Quarantine Week will run until the 10th, with about 1,500 district and neighborhood office employees and about 210 community leaders meticulously disinfecting all facilities in the area. Additionally, 63 university student part-timers will conduct resident publicity activities to encourage compliance with quarantine rules.
District and neighborhood office staff have formed inspection teams and disinfect key facilities such as bus stops, children’s playgrounds, traditional markets, bicycle racks, exercise equipment, and facilities around subway stations twice a day, morning and afternoon, by wiping with disinfectant and spraying.
Also, using two 3.5-ton water spraying vehicles twice a day each, they disinfect roads, bus stops, subway station entrances, Sharosu-gil, Sillim Intersection, and other major alleyway commercial districts and residential areas.
Community leaders, who are familiar with the neighborhood geography and local conditions including quarantine-vulnerable facilities, also participate in disinfecting key facilities alongside the staff.
Moreover, the district plans to conduct focused campaign activities distributing promotional materials at subway station entrances and major bus stops during peak commuting hours to encourage residents to comply with personal COVID-19 quarantine rules, together with university student part-timers.
Furthermore, after the Intensive Quarantine Week ends on July 13, the district intends to establish a daily quarantine system centered on neighborhood community centers to continue on-site quarantine until the COVID-19 spread subsides.
Utilizing additional personnel including about 800 public workers participating in the Hope Job Project, 449 elderly participants in senior job programs, university student part-timers, and neighborhood community center staff, the district will continuously disinfect major areas and facilities and promote quarantine rules to alleviate residents’ anxiety and ensure safety.
On the afternoon of June 29, Mayor Park Jun-hee also conducted quarantine activities with staff in the Nakseongdae-dong area of Gwanak-gu, carefully wiping public facilities such as shared bicycles, park benches, exercise equipment, and subway station handrails with disinfectant.
He also distributed COVID-19 quarantine rule promotional materials to residents, urging them to strictly follow personal quarantine rules such as wearing masks, washing hands, and maintaining social distancing.
On July 1, marking his second anniversary in office, he walked from his home to the district office and carefully disinfected subway station handrails, bicycle racks, public phone booths, and alleyway shops together with staff.
