The "Youth Researcher Training Project" is a future talent development initiative where high school students in Seongdong-gu identify local community issues and seek solutions based on 4th Industrial Revolution technologies. Now in its second year following last year, this project is conducted through real-time online video classes and recorded lectures due to the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
The first lecture on the 1st began with Mayor Jeong Won-oh of Seongdong-gu encouraging the participating students via an online screen. This project involves 60 students from three schools?Hanyang University of Education High School, Seongsu High School, and Gyeongil High School?and runs for about four months until November. It forms five clubs across three fields: App Maker, AI Convergence Maker, and IoT Maker, to cultivate creative problem-solving skills.
Students first learn 4th Industrial Revolution technologies and then conduct field surveys to discover and explore problems within Seongdong-gu. Subsequently, they derive solutions and design and produce prototypes using future technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution such as public data apps, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things. The completed products will be presented at the "Seongdong 4th Industrial Revolution Festival" in November, where outstanding works will be selected through evaluation.
A district official stated, "Students receive specialized education from expert instructors and facilitators in the field of 4th Industrial Revolution technologies, and through field visits, they identify problems themselves and experience a comprehensive talent development process that includes proposing creative ideas for solutions."
