6 out of 10 Koreans Oppose Government Support for Tuition Refunds
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Six out of ten citizens oppose supporting university tuition refunds through additional supplementary budgets (supplementary budgets) or government funds.
According to a survey conducted by Realmeter on the 24th at the request of tbs regarding the government's support for tuition refunds, 62.7% responded that they oppose government support, announced on the 25th. Those in favor of government support accounted for 25.1%, while 12.2% were unsure.
The approval rate varied significantly by age group. It was 27.4% among people in their 20s, but only 16.5% in their 30s, 20.3% in their 40s, 29.3% in their 50s, 22.2% in their 60s, and 36.4% for those aged 70 and above. Opposition to government support was 64.9% among those in their 20s, 75.5% in their 30s, but only 37.3% among those aged 70 and above.
By region, approval rates were relatively higher in Seoul (31.8%) and Gwangju·Jeolla (30.2%) compared to other areas. Opposition exceeded the majority in all regions surveyed. Gangwon had the highest opposition at 83.4%, followed by Gyeonggi·Incheon (69.6%), Busan·Ulsan·Gyeongnam (65.3%), and Daejeon·Sejong·Chungcheong (63.8%).
Opposition was also the majority across political party supporters. The approval rate among Democratic Party supporters (approval 26.6% vs. opposition 63.4%) was somewhat higher than that of United Future Party supporters (approval 18.8% vs. opposition 69.0%).
By ideological inclination, the progressive group showed a relatively higher approval rate (approval 30.2% vs. opposition 55.5%). The centrist group (approval 23.8% vs. opposition 71.4%) and conservative group (approval 22.4% vs. opposition 62.7%) had similar approval rates.

This survey contacted 9,705 adults aged 18 and over nationwide, with a final 500 respondents completing the survey, recording a response rate of 5.2%. The sampling error is ±4.4 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
