National Pension Service Shares COVID-19 Response Strategy Worldwide
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The National Pension Service (NPS) announced on the 23rd that it has shared its proactive COVID-19 crisis management system and efforts to prevent the spread through external cooperation with the world via the International Social Security Association (ISSA) website.
The ISSA is the only international organization leading major issues across all fields of social security systems, with over 320 social security institutions worldwide as members.
The published content includes the NPS's COVID-19 crisis response cases, support efforts to overcome the national crisis, and examples of the NPS’s stable pension operations during the COVID-19 situation.
Since the early spread of COVID-19, the NPS established the "COVID-19 Emergency Safety Management Committee" and has been monitoring key situations at headquarters and branches 24 hours a day. Institutionally, to ease the pension insurance premium burden for NPS subscribers facing difficulties due to COVID-19, exceptions were made for pension insurance premium payments and delinquent fee collections.
Additionally, to ensure normal pension payment operations, decision-making tasks were transferred to regional headquarters in case of branch closures, and to maintain uninterrupted fund management, fund management personnel were distributed across four regions including Seoul and Daejeon. Various emergency response plans were established and implemented.
Externally, the NPS took charge of operating the Gyeonggi International 2 Residential Treatment Center (Ansan) and the Gimpo Temporary Residential Facility, and dispatched staff to quarantine stations and residential treatment facilities at three airports including Incheon Airport, actively supporting the national crisis response.
The NPS expects that by introducing these crisis management cases to the ISSA’s 320 member institutions, not only its systems but also its institutional operational capabilities will be recognized.
