Volvo Launches 'Drive to Zero' Safety Campaign with Korea Expressway Corporation
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Volvo Cars Korea announced on the 23rd that it will conduct a safety campaign called ‘Drive to Zero’ in collaboration with Korea Expressway Corporation to promote safe driving habits in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the traffic accident investigation team.
This campaign was planned according to Volvo Cars’ safety vision to eliminate the three major threats on the road?▲ speeding, ▲ distracted driving, and ▲ drunk driving?which are the main causes of traffic accidents, aiming for zero serious injuries and fatalities.
According to data analyzed by Korea Expressway Corporation on the causes of traffic accident deaths on highways over the recent five years from 2015 to 2019, out of a total of 1,079 deaths, 857 deaths?nearly 80%?were caused by drowsiness, inattention, and speeding. In particular, according to data from the National Police Agency, the fatality rate of traffic accidents caused by speeding is more than 15 times higher than that of general accidents. Additionally, drunk driving impairs the driver’s judgment and is one of the major causes of large-scale accident damages, increasing the risk of accidents up to 25 times.
Accordingly, Volvo Cars Korea will conduct activities to check usual driving habits and receive pledges for safe driving participation through the ‘Drive to Zero’ microsite until the 19th of next month. Those who participate in the safe driving pledge will be entered into a prize event with rewards such as an Electrolux air purifier Pure A9 (1 person), Thule Revolve carrier (3 people), Helinox camping gear (5 people), Thule backpack (10 people), and Starbucks 10,000 KRW e-gift cards (500 people).
Furthermore, joint marketing for safe driving habits will be conducted through SK Telecom’s T map until the 6th of next month. Participants can join by saying ‘Safe driving OK’ via ‘T map x NUGU’ before departure or by clicking the popup event banner page within T map and agreeing to the safe driving pledge. A total of 4,000 participants will be selected by lottery to receive fuel vouchers worth 10,000 KRW.
