BBQ Develops Post-Corona Customized Stores... Opens Path for Small-Capital Youth Startups
Introducing a Store Specialized Exclusively in Delivery and Takeout
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] Genesis BBQ announced on the 22nd that it has developed a store model specialized exclusively in delivery and takeout to align with the untact trend in the post-COVID-19 era. It is expected to gain popularity among the 2040 generation who wish to start a business with small capital.
On the 22nd, BBQ announced the development and launch of the ‘B.SK’ store model, which allows one or two people to start a business with an investment of about 50 million KRW including the deposit.
B.SK stands for ‘BBQ Smart Kitchen’ and is a small-scale store of about 8 to 12 pyeong (approximately 26 to 40 square meters) that operates without dine-in customers, serving only delivery and takeout customers. Delivery is 100% entrusted to delivery agencies.
In particular, with the strengthening of untact consumption in the post-COVID-19 era and the popularization of the delivery agency business, this model utilizes delivery agencies as the basic platform, enabling startups at about half the cost of existing store openings. It is expected to greatly assist young entrepreneurs in their 20s to 40s.
At the end of April, after several months of preparation, BBQ opened the first B.SK store in Yongin and has been operating a total of five pilot stores. Sales analysis and profitability reviews showed an impressive daily average sales of 1.5 to 2 million KRW, exceeding the expected daily sales by 40% to 80%.
Especially, since there are no dine-in customers, the range of location choices is wider, significantly reducing initial costs and fixed costs such as deposits, key money, and monthly rent. This is expected to greatly increase the operating profit of franchise families (store owners).
The kitchen system also adopted an open kitchen system in the form of a cooking class, allowing customers to observe the cooking process anytime and anywhere, in line with the trend of emphasizing cleanliness.
Yoon Hong-geun, Chairman of Genesis BBQ, stated, “The youth unemployment problem may worsen due to the difficult economic situation after COVID-19. I hope BBQ’s new model will become an alternative to employment at large corporations, enabling young people with business will to actively start businesses and achieve economic independence quickly.”

B.SK is currently a hot topic even among families operating existing BBQ stores. A BBQ official explained, “Experiencing the unprecedented COVID-19 crisis, families have felt the need to diversify store operations to spread risks and maximize profitability. B.SK can be a new alternative for these families as well.”
