Gwangju City Publicly Recruits Citizens to Participate in the 'Sseunsori Committee'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 21st that it will publicly recruit general citizens to participate as members of the ‘Sseunsori Committee’.
Earlier, on the 8th, Lee Yong-seop, Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, revealed plans to form the ‘Sseunsori Committee,’ stating, “Rather than pleasant words, we will strictly evaluate city administration through loving criticism and invite members from civic groups and citizens from all walks of life who will provide frank and unreserved criticism.”
The ‘Sseunsori Committee’ is planned to be organized and operated to hear unreserved criticism and sincere policy proposals regarding city administration, unlike existing committees composed of experts participating in city affairs.
Its main function is to represent citizens and convey unreserved opinions to the city on major issues raised through the media, the council, audits, and complex or collective civil complaints.
The committee is expected to hold meetings about once a month, and appointed members will serve for two years from the date of appointment.
This recruitment of members will be conducted through recommendations and open applications.
Recommendations will be made by major civic groups to appoint members, while open applications will be accepted from general citizens aged 19 or older, with final selection based on criteria considering gender, generation, social class, and occupation.
However, applicants who are already participating in three or more city-related committees will be excluded.
Citizens wishing to apply can download the designated form from the city’s website and submit the application form, self-introduction letter, and other required documents via email, fax, mail, or by visiting city hall from the 22nd to the 27th.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the city requested that submissions be made preferably through non-face-to-face methods such as email, mail, or fax.
The city plans to complete the selection of members within this month through smooth recruitment, hold the first meeting early next month to introduce members to each other, deliver appointment letters, and organize the executive team to begin full operation.
