About 300 people attended the event, including around 200 citizens, Wando-gun Governor Shin Woo-cheol, Jeollanam-do Council member Shin Eui-jun, Wando-gun council members, and heads of local institutions and social organizations. Strict adherence to social distancing and other COVID-19 prevention measures was observed.
The event included a pre-ceremony performance, a report on the progress of the expo, the awarding of appointment letters to the Pan-Citizen Support Council members, the reading of a resolution pledging the successful hosting of the expo, and a performance expressing the hope that the Seaweed Expo will be widely recognized worldwide and enhance its prestige.
Meanwhile, the Pan-Citizen Support Council is composed mainly of social organizations, the Life Sports Association, various clubs, heads of villages and neighborhoods, and women's association leaders. Jo In-ho, chairman of the Wando-gun Council, serves as the president and operates through separately organized subcommittees.
Going forward, the council plans to lead the movement for unity among all citizens to ensure the successful hosting of the Seaweed Expo and actively take the lead in domestic and international promotion.
In October, a Pan-Citizen Pledge Rally for the Four Major Citizen Practices (cleanliness, order, discipline, and service) will also be held.
A resident of Soan-myeon who attended the resolution rally said, “Since this is the third expo, I hope it will achieve better results than the previous ones,” and added, “Citizens will contribute their efforts not only in promotion but also in volunteering.”
Governor Shin Woo-cheol said, “There are 308 days left until the expo,” and added, “I ask for the wisdom and capabilities of over 50,000 citizens to make the 2021 Wando International Seaweed Expo a great success. We will do our utmost to successfully lead the expo, which will greatly contribute to the seaweed industry and the development of our county.”
