Yuseonghun, Geumcheon District Mayor, Accelerates Support for Small Business Owners and Self-Employed
Yu Gu-cheong, Directly Visits Alley Markets for Promotion Campaign... Promotes COVID-19 Support Projects for Small Businesses with Leaflets
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon) has taken active steps to support small business owners and self-employed workers in traditional markets who are facing a crisis due to the economic downturn caused by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon of Geumcheon-gu visited six local traditional markets and shopping districts at 3 p.m. on the 12th and 16th to conduct a promotional campaign for the COVID-19 response “Geumcheon-gu Small Business Support Project.”
During the promotional campaign, Mayor Yoo personally visited stores in the six traditional markets, distributing leaflets about the “COVID-19 Response Geumcheon-gu Small Business Support Project” and providing guidance on the support programs.
He also directly checked whether the small business support projects were being properly applied on-site by asking if they had received information about the program, whether they had applied, and if there were any issues.
The merchant associations participating in the campaign urged thorough quarantine measures such as wearing masks to prevent COVID-19, distributing masks and quarantine information leaflets to merchants and market visitors.
Merchant A from Eunhaengnamu Market said, “I was so busy running my store that I didn’t know about this program, but I’m grateful that the district office and the merchant association provided direct guidance,” adding, “Sales have already decreased, so receiving support funds will be a great help.”
Go Chang-yong, president of the Nammun Market Merchant Association, said, “The district office gathered all the support programs and informed the merchants struggling due to COVID-19, which was a great help,” and expressed his gratitude, “I am truly thankful to Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon for personally visiting each store and providing sincere guidance despite the hot weather.”
Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon of Geumcheon-gu said, “I hope the COVID-19 response small business support project will help alleviate the difficulties of small business owners even a little,” and added, “We will strengthen promotion to ensure that every eligible small business owner receives support without exception.” He continued, “We will also prepare and implement various support measures to reach those who may be in blind spots of the support projects.”
Meanwhile, since April, the district has been implementing various support projects as measures to revive the local economy, including operating the “Alley Economy Support Center,” special credit guarantee loans for small business owners and self-employed workers, and survival funds support for Seoul’s self-employed.
