[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Yong-woo] This year, the fastest person in the Korean-style Formula Touring Car in Korea was a university student from Busan.
Lee Dong-hyun, a student at Busan Institute of Science and Technology, took the top spot on the podium in the ASA KIC-CUP Touring Car Race opening round, the 'Korean-style Formula KF 1600'.
The touring car race, which had been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, kicked off the 2020 season without spectators over three days starting from the 24th of last month at the Korea International Circuit (KIC) in Yeongam, Jeollanam-do.
Marking its 6th season under the ASA title, this first round was the first comprehensive motorsports event held domestically since the outbreak of COVID-19.
At the event, diverse races were held across 8 classes in 6 categories, including the existing KIC-M class (BMW single-make race), F-TT class (production cars), drifting, and the KF-1600 class, a Korean-style formula that has attracted much attention.
Lee Dong-hyun from Busan University of Science and Technology stood at the top of the podium.
