Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education to Fully Refund Parents' Contributions for Private Kindergartens for May
Unlike March and April, in May, even the government support burden is covered by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education's funds
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 17th that it will refund the full amount of the parental burden tuition fees for private kindergartens for May.
Due to the suspension of classes caused by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) continuing until May 26, the Office of Education explained that, following March and April, it has decided to additionally refund the parental burden tuition fees for May.
In March and April, the national government and the Office of Education each contributed 25% of the funds, supporting private kindergartens with a total of 3.5 billion KRW, which is 50% of the parental burden tuition fees. However, for May, the Office of Education will support 1.75 billion KRW, which is 50% of the tuition fees, using its own budget.
Private kindergartens wishing to receive the support must refund the full amount of the May tuition fees to parents, just as they did in March and April, and must pay the full amount of teachers' salaries for May.

Superintendent Kang Eun-hee stated, "With consistent support for 50% of the parental burden tuition fees in May following March and April, we expect this to alleviate the economic burden on parents in the Daegu area, who have been most affected by COVID-19, as well as help stabilize the livelihoods of private kindergarten teachers by ensuring 100% payment of their salaries."
