Yeosu City Officials Collect Spare Change from Monthly Salaries to Deliver 'Hope' to Neighbors
Monthly Deduction of Less Than 1,000 or 10,000 Won for Employee Donations... 1,908 Employees Participated
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Yeosu City Hall officials supported 5 million won from the Spare Change Sharing Fund on the 12th to 10 households with children under 18 suffering from rare diseases.
Since 2016, Yeosu City Hall employees have voluntarily deducted small amounts below a certain threshold from their monthly salaries to create the fund.
Currently, 1,908 people are participating, and the fund balance has reached 42,356,800 won.
In 2017, they supported 11 children under 18 with rare and intractable diseases with 11 million won, and in 2019, they supported 10 children from low-income grandparent-headed households with 5 million won, leading efforts to help neighbors in need.
After the Spare Change Sharing Fund Operation Deliberation Committee meeting in February, this year, 15 million won will be used for four projects, including support for children with rare diseases, social welfare facilities, and scholarships for public officials' children.
