South Korea's COVID-19 'Saenghwal Bangyeok' Spreads Worldwide Online
6th Webinar of the International Epidemic Prevention Cooperation Task Force for COVID-19 Response
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 17th, the government will hold the 6th webinar to share K-quarantine policies and technologies related to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) with the world.
The 6th webinar, hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, is organized as an opportunity to share experiences of "everyday quarantine," with participation from the Korea Education and Research Information Service (Keris) and the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO).
The webinar consists of presentations on social distancing and everyday quarantine policies (Son Young-rae, Head of Strategic Planning Team, Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters, Ministry of Health and Welfare), online school attendance cases (Kim Jin-sook, Head of Education Service Division, Keris), and the operation of professional baseball games without spectators in response to COVID-19 (Lee Jin-hyung, Deputy Secretary General, KBO).
- The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters of the Ministry of Health and Welfare will introduce the concept and goals of everyday quarantine and present how basic guidelines for performing everyday quarantine, reopening of public facilities, and strengthening of surveillance systems were implemented. Keris will share know-how gained from preparing and executing online school openings at various school levels to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Additionally, the KBO will present its COVID-19 response case and league operation during the spectator-free opening amid the global pandemic.
After the lectures, experts will answer pre-submitted and real-time questions from overseas participants for 45 minutes. This event is expected to serve as an opportunity to meet the demand for multilateral cooperation by sharing Korea’s experience in transitioning to everyday quarantine, which has attracted international attention.
In particular, by focusing on topics such as online school attendance and spectator-free baseball games, which have drawn global attention, it is expected to be a chance to widely promote Korea’s efforts to harmonize quarantine measures with daily life.
Son Young-rae, Head of Strategic Planning Team at the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters, Ministry of Health and Welfare, said, “Returning to daily life alongside quarantine is an unfamiliar experience not only for Korea but for the entire world, and trial and error is inevitable. We hope to help the international community by sharing Korea’s experience.”
Since May, the K-quarantine webinars, hosted by the International Quarantine Cooperation Task Force, have been systematically sharing Korea’s quarantine experience with the international community through collaboration among 12 government ministries including the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as six related organizations such as the Korea Health Industry Development Institute, the International Healthcare Foundation, and the Korea International Cooperation Agency.
The first to third K-quarantine webinars, hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, were designed with the theme of “overall quarantine policies” tailored to developing countries and other target nations, while from the 4th webinar onward, the government has shared its thematic response experiences on immigration and quarantine, epidemiological investigations, and economic policies.
