According to Statistics Korea, the number of 'new unemployed' (unemployed for less than 3 months) in May reached approximately 735,000, an increase of 107,000 compared to last year.
This is the largest scale since related statistics began to be compiled in 1999.
Accordingly, the district plans to actively support residents' economic activities and reduce the unemployment rate by creating 1,400 public jobs in the second half of the year, following the recruitment of 251 people in the first half.
First, the district will select 861 residents in the first round and support them to work for five months from July 1 to November 30. The second round will continue recruiting until the target of 1,400 hires is met.
The district prioritizes the selection of those unemployed due to COVID-19, unpaid leave workers, business closure or suspension workers, as well as low-income groups and persons with disabilities.
Main tasks include ▲support for daily quarantine ▲support for local markets and small business owners ▲improvement of public rest areas ▲enhancement of cultural and artistic environments ▲emergency public work support ▲disaster prevention ▲and other specialized projects.
Participants in the Hope Jobs program will receive an hourly wage of 8,590 KRW and work 6 hours a day, 30 hours a week. Workers' rights are guaranteed through enrollment in the four major social insurances and payment of weekly and monthly allowances.
Residents aged 18 or older who wish to apply for Hope Jobs should visit their local community service center by the 19th to submit the public work project application, job application, and consent forms for collection, use, and provision of personal information.
For more details about the Hope Jobs program, please visit the district website or contact the Job Economy Division.
The district will post the list of successful candidates on the website after June 29 and notify them individually.
Meanwhile, the district plans to provide public jobs to 1,650 people in total this year, both in the first and second halves. This is four times the number from last year, proactively responding to the economic crisis caused by COVID-19.
