[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City (Mayor Heo Seok) is making smooth progress on the ‘South Coast Fermented Food Industry Support Center Construction Project,’ which is being promoted for research and development of the fermented food industry and convergence industrialization.
Suncheon City held a forum on June 15 to gather public opinion for the successful promotion of the ‘South Coast Fermented Food Industry Support Center,’ which will lead the sustainable development of the agricultural food industry.
About 50 people attended the forum, including experts in the fermented food field, related organizations and companies, interested citizens, and groups. After presentations on related project cases and reports on operation plans, in-depth proposals and discussions were held regarding the operation and development plans of the support center.
Suncheon City held a meeting of fermented food industry experts on January 8 to reflect experts’ opinions in the design, and plans to actively incorporate the opinions gathered at this forum as well.
The ‘South Coast Fermented Food Industry Support Center’ is a project to establish a foundation for research and development and convergence industrialization of the fermented food industry covering the South Coast area by investing a total project cost of 10 billion KRW, including 5 billion KRW of national funding by 2021. It will be linked with the Suncheon Microbial Center located in Seungju-eup, Suncheon City, and will be equipped with production and research facilities, administrative and corporate support facilities, and startup incubation facilities.
Currently, process design and product development services and architectural design competitions are underway. Construction is planned to begin in December this year as soon as the design is completed, with completion scheduled for the end of December 2021.
