Bezos to Customer Criticizing 'Amazon Black Support': "Happy to Lose You"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, called a customer who criticized the company for supporting the Black Lives Matter movement a "customer happy to lose."
On the 8th (local time), according to CNBC and others, Bezos attached an email sent by a customer named Dave to his Instagram the day before and made this statement. The email contained insulting language with profanity, racial slurs, and stated that Amazon's decision to support the racial justice protests would ruin the company.
Bezos described the email as "one of the disgusting but not surprising emails" he received, adding, "This kind of hatred should not be allowed to hide in the shadows. It is important to make it visible." He then addressed the sender directly, writing, "You are the kind of customer I am happy to lose."
Earlier, on the 5th, Bezos had revealed an email from a customer angry about Amazon's support for the Black Lives Matter movement. At that time, he said, "'Black Lives Matter' does not mean other lives do not matter," and explained, "This movement speaks to the racial discrimination and unequal risks Black people face within our law enforcement and judicial systems." He also added that unlike Black parents, he never has to worry that his son might one day be stopped and choked to death.
