57 New COVID-19 Cases Confirmed... 50s for Two Consecutive Days
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] As new cases of COVID-19 cluster infections continue to occur mainly in the Seoul metropolitan area, the daily number of new confirmed cases has remained in the 50s for two consecutive days.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced on the 7th at midnight that 57 new confirmed cases were added, bringing the total to 11,776. Among the new confirmed cases, 55 were domestic, and the remaining 2 were detected during quarantine. By infection route, 53 were local transmissions and 4 were imported cases.
Of the 53 domestic cases by region, 27 were in Seoul, 19 in Gyeonggi, and 6 in Incheon, totaling 52 new confirmed cases in the metropolitan area. The remaining 1 case was reported in Daegu.
One case each in Ulsan and Chungbuk were identified during self-quarantine after entry and were classified as imported cases.
The daily number of new domestic confirmed cases remained in the 50s for the second day in a row following 51 cases the previous day. This again exceeded the baseline of 50 cases set by the 'Everyday Social Distancing' quarantine system.
The number of new confirmed cases had risen to 79 on the 28th of last month, then decreased to 58 → 39 → 27, but has turned upward again this month due to cluster infections from small church gatherings in the metropolitan area.
