View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 5th that the Jindo Mysterious Sea Road Festival has been included in the ‘2020-2021 Government-Designated Honorary Cultural Tourism Festivals’ selected by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism this year.
The Honorary Cultural Tourism Festival is a program that selects festivals with sustainability and self-sufficiency in the region, equips them with dedicated organizations, and supports festivals with high potential for growth into world-class festivals.
The honorary cultural tourism festivals selected this year include seven festivals: the Jindo Mysterious Sea Road Festival, Hadong Wild Tea Culture Festival, Muju Firefly Festival, Mungyeong Tea Bowl Festival, Cheonan Heungtaryeong Festival, Geumsan Ginseng Festival, and Yeongdong Nangye Gugak Festival.
With the designation as an Honorary Cultural Tourism Festival, systematic projects such as professional education and consulting, and development of festival tourism products will be carried out for two years from this year to support the fostering of world-class festivals at the central government level.
The Honorary Cultural Tourism Festival is selected by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism with the purpose of strengthening festival competitiveness and fostering world-class festivals.
The Jindo Mysterious Sea Road Festival is held annually in the first half of the year between Hoedong-ri in Gogeun-myeon and Modo-ri in Uisin-myeon, where a 2.8 km long and about 40 m wide sea road opens due to tidal differences, but it was canceled this year due to COVID-19.

An official from the Jindo-gun Tourism Division said, “The Jindo Mysterious Sea Road Festival has laid the foundation to advance as a global festival competing not only domestically but also internationally,” and added, “Next year, we will prepare a perfect festival to contribute to revitalizing the local economy weakened by COVID-19, increase tourist satisfaction, and promote the festival by developing substantial programs.”
