According to the Maritime Police, at around 23:10 on the 4th, patrol ship 116 witnessed flames and smoke coming from the Isudo Breakwater during a sea patrol. Seven officers equipped with firefighting gear landed and began extinguishing the fire, which was completely put out by 00:50 on the 5th.
The fire reportedly started when embers from a fire lit by nearby anglers to repel insects flew and ignited a pile of wooden materials. The exact cause of the fire is unknown.

The captain of Changwon Maritime Police patrol ship 116 said, "The fire could have spread to the entire village, but it was discovered early and extinguished promptly," adding, "The Maritime Police will do their best to protect the lives and safety of the public."
