Gwangsan-gu Public Officials in Gwangju, Relay Donation of Disaster Relief Funds to Boost Local Economy
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Public officials in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, are attracting attention as they continue a donation relay by generously contributing part of their emergency disaster relief funds to revitalize the local economy.
According to Gwangsan-gu on the 24th, members of ‘Bowhoe,’ one of the friendship and self-help groups of Gwangsan-gu public officials, donated 3 million won on the 21st to the funding of the ‘Gwangsan Economic Vaccine Meeting,’ a public-private-academic governance for local economic revitalization in Gwangsan-gu.
Bowhoe is a group established in 2005 by health-related public officials to improve their rights and interests. Recently, after internal meetings, the group members decided to participate in overcoming the COVID-19 crisis by using part of their emergency disaster relief funds to revitalize the local economy.
Oh Hyun-sook, president of Bowhoe, said, “The members, who worked harder than anyone else on the front lines of COVID-19, gathered their will to overcome the crisis with the local community as soon as possible and decided to donate to the local economic revitalization funding.”
Earlier, on the 20th, the ‘Green Light,’ a gardening volunteer club, donated 3 million won, and the welfare policy research group ‘Social Welfare Administration Research Association’ contributed 10 million won. On the 13th, the tax official group ‘Sewoohoe’ also donated 3 million won to the funding.
The donation relay among public officials is continuing individually, by clubs, and by departments.
Starting with the Corporate Economy Division staff on the 23rd of last month, the Civil Service Service Division staff continued the relay on the 20th of this month.
As of the 20th, the emergency disaster relief funds contributed by 18 self-help groups in Gwangsan-gu total 30.11 million won.
Senior public officials in Gwangsan-gu have also decided to join this trend among employees and will donate their emergency disaster relief funds soon.

The funding, launched on April 7th with the ‘COVID-19 Overcome Gwangsan Economic Vaccine Meeting,’ will be used for projects to overcome the economic downturn, including building a local community safety net, revitalizing small business owners and self-employed workers, emergency response for small and medium-sized enterprises in industrial complexes, and a broad civic movement to overcome the economic crisis.
