Government Emergency Disaster Relief Fund Exceeds 12 Trillion Won... 90% Received
The government's emergency disaster relief fund credit and debit card recharge application began at 7 a.m. on the 11th through the websites of nine card companies. Similar to the public mask 5-day rotation system, the application is subject to a day-of-the-week system, and from the 16th, applications can be made at any time. The support fund amounts are 400,000 KRW for single-person households, 600,000 KRW for two-person households, 800,000 KRW for three-person households, and 1,000,000 KRW for households of four or more. View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] Nine out of ten households eligible for the government’s emergency disaster relief fund amid the COVID-19 pandemic have applied for and received the support.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 22nd that from the 4th to the 21st of this month, 19.21 million households applied for and received the emergency disaster relief fund, totaling 12.1068 trillion won.
So far, 88.5% of the total 21.71 million eligible households have received the relief fund, and 85.0% of the total budget of 14.2448 trillion won has been disbursed.
On the 21st alone, 910,000 households applied for and received 586.5 billion won in emergency disaster relief funds. As most eligible households have completed receiving the funds, daily applications have dropped below one million households.
By payment method (cumulative), 13.79 million households (63.5% of the total) received the fund via credit/debit card recharge, amounting to 9.1115 trillion won. This was followed by cash recipients at 2.86 million households (13.2%) with 1.3009 trillion won, prepaid cards at 1.5 million households (6.9%) with 998.3 billion won, and local love gift certificates at 1.05 million households (4.8%) with 696.2 billion won.

Applications for the emergency disaster relief fund via credit/debit card recharge can be made through each card company’s website and affiliated bank branches, while applications for local love gift certificates and prepaid cards are accepted at town, township, and neighborhood community centers.
