Min Kyung-wook Appearing at Prosecutors' Office: "If I Reveal the Informant, I Will Be Punished"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] Min Kyung-wook, a member of the Future United Party who claimed manipulation of the April 15 general election vote count, appeared at the Uijeongbu District Prosecutors' Office on the 21st.
Regarding his mention on SNS that he might be detained, Min said, "It is because I heard from my lawyers that I could be called an accomplice or an instigator in relation to the leaked ballots."
He added, "Whistleblowers take risks to speak out, and society progresses because of such people, so their identity must be protected," emphasizing, "There are types of recipients who can receive whistleblowing reports, and the first on that list is a member of the National Assembly."
He continued, "As a member of the National Assembly, I received the report and disclosed it according to its purpose," and said, "The law stipulates protection for whistleblowers, and revealing their identity is punishable."
Min is expected not to disclose the person who provided the ballots during the prosecution investigation as well.
Earlier, Min presented ballots as evidence and raised suspicions of vote count manipulation. The Central Election Commission stated that the ballots were leaked from the Guri City Election Commission in Gyeonggi Province and requested an investigation from the Supreme Prosecutors' Office. The Supreme Prosecutors' Office assigned the case to the Uijeongbu District Prosecutors' Office on the 13th, and the Criminal Division 6 (Chief Prosecutor Kim Seong-dong) is conducting the investigation.
Since last week, prosecutors have sent investigators to the Guri Gymnasium, where the general election vote count took place, and the Election Commission to investigate how Min obtained the ballots.
