Sim Sang-jung: "Yoon Mi-hyang's Explanation Lacks Persuasiveness"... Is She Being Added to the Death Note?
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] On the 21st, the Justice Party sharply criticized the Democratic Party of Korea, saying it must show a responsible attitude regarding Yoon Mee-hyang, the elected member of the Democratic Party, who has been embroiled in allegations of embezzlement of donations from the Justice and Memory Foundation (Jeonguiyeondae).
Sim Sang-jung, leader of the Justice Party, said at the executive committee meeting held at the National Assembly that day, "Even if the accounting suspicions of the Justice and Memory Foundation are left to the prosecution, the Democratic Party must take responsible action regarding suspicions about the process of Yoon's wealth formation."
Sim added, "Issues such as the opaque accounting of Nanum House and the unfair treatment of comfort women victims have been raised," and criticized, "The Democratic Party has so far left the fact-finding to the elected member's personal explanations, saying that fact verification should come first."
She continued, "Since Gyeonggi Province has formed a special investigation team to start looking into the Nanum House suspicions, I hope that through thorough prosecution investigations, responsibility will be clarified as soon as possible."
Regarding Yoon, Sim said, "There have been several reversals of facts during the explanation process, and suspicions involving family members have also been raised, making it difficult for her self-explanations to be persuasive any longer," adding, "As the suspicions have already grown like a snowball and her explanations have lost credibility, it is hard for the public to accept the Democratic Party, which is responsible for verification and candidate nomination, standing idly by."
Kim Jong-min, deputy leader of the Justice Party, also criticized, saying, "Public suspicions about Yoon and the Justice and Memory Foundation's accounting issues have not been resolved but are intensifying," and "The Democratic Party, which bears great responsibility for this matter, initially responded with consistent anti-Japanese sentiment but showed an irresponsible attitude yesterday by saying they would respond only when objective truth emerges."
He said, "Actions that belittle the 30-year movement against Japanese military sexual slavery are absolutely unacceptable," but added, "Yoon and the Justice and Memory Foundation must also face public suspicions for the sake of the movement and historical truth."

The Justice Party has publicly supported the Justice and Memory Foundation's activities to resolve the comfort women issue. In particular, Sim has attended the Wednesday demonstrations held in front of the former Japanese embassy several times. As the Justice Party raised the level of criticism against Yoon that day, there is speculation that they have put her name on the 'Death Note.' The Justice Party's Death Note is a term that arose because when the party deems a particular figure unfit, that person repeatedly fails to be elected.
