Hyundai Heavy Industries Wins Order for Two Ultra-Large Crude Oil Carriers Worth 220 Billion KRW
[Asia Economy Reporter Park So-yeon] Hyundai Heavy Industries Group announced on the 21st that it has secured orders for two ultra-large crude oil carriers (VLCCs).
Hyundai Heavy Industries Group recently signed a contract with European shipowners to build two 300,000-ton crude oil carriers for 220 billion KRW.
The vessels ordered this time are 330 meters long, 60 meters wide, and 29.7 meters high. They will be built at Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan and delivered sequentially in the first half of 2022. Equipped with scrubbers, they comply with the International Maritime Organization (IMO)'s strengthened sulfur oxide emission regulations.
Following the order on the 7th for two 158,000-ton large crude oil carriers from a European shipping company worth 105 billion KRW, Hyundai Heavy Industries Group succeeded in securing additional orders within two weeks.
According to Clarkson, a shipbuilding and shipping analysis agency, more than 800 ultra-large crude oil carriers are currently in operation, and Hyundai Heavy Industries Group has built 211 of them, accounting for one-quarter of the total.
