Hampyeong-gun and National Institute of Animal Science Conduct On-site Inspection of Livestock Resources Development Department Relocation
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Lee Sang-ik, former mayor of Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do, and Yang Chang-beom, director of the National Institute of Animal Science, visited the site of the ongoing relocation project of the Livestock Resources Development Department of the National Institute of Animal Science on the 19th to check the progress of the relocation.
According to Hampyeong-gun on the 21st, about 10 people attended the site inspection, including Mayor Lee, Director Yang, Choi Dong-soon, head of the Livestock Resources Development Department, Lee Sang-ho, head of the Planning and Coordination Division, Jeon Ik-su, team leader of the Livestock Resources Development Department relocation team, and Park Do-hwan, head of the Livestock Policy Division of Jeollanam-do.
They toured the Songsa-ri area in Singwang-myeon, Hampyeong-gun, the relocation site, and discussed the overall project, including the progress so far, future plans, and funding methods.
During the process, Mayor Lee reportedly once again requested Director Yang to prioritize the living stability measures for the relocated residents, which had been a point of some disagreement between the two sides.
Mayor Lee said, “If the Livestock Resources Development Department is relocated as planned, Hampyeong will not only establish a foundation for future livestock research and produce high value-added livestock products but also take the lead in the bio-new materials field using animal biotechnology. Through the relocation project, we will actively consult with related organizations so that local residents, Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do, and the National Institute of Animal Science can all achieve mutual development.”
Meanwhile, the relocation project of the Livestock Resources Development Department of the National Institute of Animal Science, which was confirmed last September, involves the complete relocation of four departments (Livestock Improvement Evaluation, Dairy, Swine, and Pasture Feed) and 202 employees to the 642.6-hectare Songsa-ri area in Singwang-myeon, Hampyeong-gun by 2027. The total project cost is 917 billion KRW.
