Opening of Ganggamchan Gwanak Comprehensive Social Welfare Center in Gwanak-gu
Preventing Gaps in Community Welfare Services Following Closure of Privately Operated Social Welfare Centers... Operation of Welfare Centers at 70 and 74 Yangnyeong-ro Until Establishment of 'Gwanak Cultural Welfare Town (Tentative Name)'
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) established the Gang Gam-chan Gwanak Comprehensive Social Welfare Center and commenced operations on the 11th.
The Gang Gam-chan Gwanak Comprehensive Social Welfare Center is a temporary comprehensive social welfare center set up by the district. It was created to continue welfare services without reduction following the closure of the privately operated Seonui Gwanak Comprehensive Social Welfare Center in May due to circumstances of the operating corporation.
The district purchased land near the former Seonui Gwanak Comprehensive Social Welfare Center (478-26 Bongcheon-dong) this year and plans to build a complex facility called ‘Gwanak Cultural Welfare Town (tentative name)’ that combines a social welfare center, sports facilities, and a lifestyle culture center in one location, aiming to open it in the first half of 2023.
Prior to this, to prevent residents from experiencing a gap in welfare services before the new facility is built, two temporary spaces at 70 Yangnyeong-ro and 74 Yangnyeong-ro in Gwanak-gu were prepared to establish and operate the Gang Gam-chan Gwanak Comprehensive Social Welfare Center.
Since February, the district has invested 270 million won to remodel the temporary spaces totaling 842㎡ in gross floor area, creating an auditorium, offices, senior dining hall, program rooms, and volunteer rooms.
The 3rd and 4th floors of the building at 70 Yangnyeong-ro are equipped with offices and program rooms where various education sessions, meetings, and community activities will take place.
The building at 74 Yangnyeong-ro has an auditorium, offices, senior dining hall, and program rooms on the basement 1st and 2nd floors, hosting various welfare events, free meal services, and small-scale programs.
The district stated that all programs will be operated without any reduction from the welfare services previously provided by the Seonui Gwanak Comprehensive Social Welfare Center to ensure no inconvenience to users.
The Gang Gam-chan Gwanak Comprehensive Social Welfare Center is currently closed due to the impact of COVID-19. The district plans to gradually resume welfare projects such as the senior dining hall and small-scale programs based on the future COVID-19 situation.
