WHO "COVID-19, 'Transmission via Surface Contact' Not Proven"
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] The World Health Organization (WHO) stated that the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) can survive on surfaces such as doorknobs and keyboards for several days, but it has not yet been proven that touching surfaces with the virus leads to infection.
According to major foreign media on the 17th (local time), WHO released research results investigating the survival period of COVID-19 on surfaces, stating that the virus can survive up to 7 days on the surface of masks. Additionally, it was found to survive for 4 days on stainless steel and plastic, 2 days on glass, and 1 day on fabric and wood.

However, WHO mentioned that there have been no confirmed cases of infection through virus remaining on surfaces. Nonetheless, since COVID-19, like other coronaviruses, cannot be completely ruled out as transmissible through surface contact, WHO emphasized the importance of disinfecting surfaces of objects such as sinks, bathrooms, and doorknobs.
