[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) is recruiting 15 cafes to participate in the '2020 Youth Barista Training Project' until the 15th.

This project matches cafes and youth in Seongdong-gu on a 1:1 basis, supporting small business owners (cafes) with youth employment wages for a certain period, and providing youth with experience as baristas to improve their job skills as part of a job creation initiative.

Due to COVID-19, the project aims to reduce the burden on local cafes facing difficulties by supporting 90% of their labor costs.

Youths participating in the project will receive intensive training for one month in May at cafes currently in operation, focusing on practical barista work, cafe operations, customer service, and store management?skills actually required in cafes. The district has already completed recruiting 13 youths in April.

After recruiting participating cafes, 1:1 matching interviews between youth baristas who have completed practical training and cafes will be held, and full-scale employment will begin in June.

Cafes will receive 90% of the wages for the hired youth from the district, and the employment period is six months.

Cafes located within Seongdong-gu and interested in hiring youth baristas can apply through the Seongdong-gu website. Detailed information on application contents, period, and required documents can also be found on the website. Franchise cafes are excluded from eligibility.

Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, "This support will reduce the labor cost burden for small business owners like local cafes severely affected by COVID-19 and provide a great opportunity for youths dreaming of employment or entrepreneurship in the barista field. We hope this support project will help small business owners suffering from the COVID-19 crisis regain stability as soon as possible."
