[Weekly Savings Bank] Appreciation Plaque for Chairman Choi Yoon, the 'Original Korean'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Min-young] Choi Yoon, chairman of OK Financial Group, which has subsidiaries such as OK Savings Bank and OK Capital, received a plaque of appreciation from overseas Korean school principals.
OK Financial announced that Chairman Choi received the plaque in recognition of his contribution of donating 1 million masks to overcome COVID-19 to domestic child welfare facilities, students of ethnic schools worldwide, expatriate children, and faculty members.
The plaque presentation ceremony was recently held at the Seoul National University Overseas Education Support Center in Gwanak-gu, Seoul, with overseas Korean school principals and officials from around the world attending via video conference.
The Overseas Education Support Center, under the Ministry of Education, supports the educational operations and school management of 34 overseas Korean schools worldwide. These overseas Korean schools are established in 16 countries including Southeast Asian regions such as Vietnam, the Philippines, and Singapore, as well as Russia, Paraguay, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, and Iran.
Chairman Choi also serves as chairman of the OK Bae and Jeong Scholarship Foundation and chairman of Geumgang School, an overseas Korean school in Osaka, Japan.
Chairman Choi said, “Having grown up as a third-generation Korean resident in Japan, I deeply empathize with the difficulties of the growth environment. I hope overseas Koreans living in foreign countries will grow up without losing their 'Korean pride' and as original Koreans.” He added, “There were many difficulties in securing 1 million masks and safely delivering them to foreign countries scattered around the world, but I hope that hope and our sincerity will be fully conveyed to overseas Koreans struggling due to the spread of COVID-19.”
