[Asia Economy Reporter Yang Nak-gyu] The AH-1Z Viper attack helicopter, nicknamed the "Venomous Snake," is a representative amphibious assault helicopter operated by the U.S. Marine Corps.
Unlike the Apache series attack helicopters operated on land, the AH-1Z attack helicopter is primarily used for maritime operations by the Marine Corps. The AH-1Z attack helicopter features a new four-blade rotor and an upgraded engine, equipped with various new avionics and sensors. Additionally, the U.S. Marine Corps has refurbished the Super Cobra attack helicopters into Viper attack helicopters.

Compared to the existing Super Cobra, the AH-1Z attack helicopter has three times the range and nearly double the payload capacity. Its armament capability has dramatically improved, allowing it to carry as many as 16 Hellfire anti-tank missiles. The U.S. Marine Corps has ordered over 110 units, with about 70 currently in operation. Besides this, Bahrain and the Czech Republic have decided to acquire the AH-1Z attack helicopters.
