eBay Korea SmilePay Donates to 'Hamkke Dolbom' Project for Vulnerable Children
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] eBay Korea's Smile Pay announced on the 8th that it has joined forces with Yeondong Welfare Foundation and Noldam to provide care for vulnerable children who have been left in the blind spots of learning rights due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
This project is part of eBay Korea's simple payment service Smile Pay's donation event held in April, titled "Overcome Together! Now is the Stay-at-Home Era".
Smile Pay automatically accumulated a support fund of 1,000 KRW whenever customers purchased products necessary for 'stay-at-home' life at event partner stores, raising a total donation fund of 15 million KRW. The raised donation was delivered to the Yeondong Welfare Foundation, which helps low-income families in the Jongno area. The Yeondong Welfare Foundation decided to design and implement detailed care programs together with Noldam, which provides child care services.
On the 29th of last month, an orientation session for the project was held in time slots for a total of 20 children from grandparent-headed families and migrant backgrounds at 'On the Record' located in Daehak-ro, Seoul. On that day, care teachers belonging to the social venture Noldam visited the children's homes to introduce the project to caregivers, while the children toured the care space, introduced themselves through portraits, and planned their future learning together.
The care teachers will assist the children's online learning once a week for about two hours over approximately two months until June, and spend time communicating and playing together. In addition, special classes tailored to each grade and outdoor activities are planned.
