Gwangju City and Hancom Group Sign MOU to Establish AI Business Foundation

View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Hancom Group, an information and communication technology (ICT) convergence company with the best technology and competitiveness, has decided to actively cooperate with Gwangju Metropolitan City in the fields of artificial intelligence and drones, including promoting the establishment of an office in the Gwangju area.
On the 7th, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced that Mayor Lee Yong-seop and Hancom Group Chairman Kim Sang-chul attended and signed a business agreement for the "Establishment of a Gwangju-type Artificial Intelligence Business Base" at Hancom Tower in Bundang, Gyeonggi Province.
Hancom Group is an ICT convergence company that owns 14 affiliates in software, hardware, and finance sectors based on innovative convergence technology.
Through this business agreement, Hancom Group plans to open an office in the Gwangju area for fostering talent in artificial intelligence and drones, and based on this, it will actively work to foster the AI industry, nurture talent, and create new jobs.
The main contents of the agreement include ▲establishing an office in the Gwangju area for fostering talent in artificial intelligence and drones ▲developing and operating advanced industry corporate support programs and planning and promoting professional workforce education and employment programs ▲providing technical and policy advice for creating an AI cluster and building a business platform ▲planning and promoting programs in the Gwangju area to foster the security industry ▲mutual cooperation in fields such as artificial intelligence, service robots, drones, and mobility.
Gwangju City is accelerating the attraction of domestic and international AI-related institutions and companies in big data, software, and cloud sectors by signing agreements with the National Security Research Institute (February 17), attracting IEEE’s AI Standards Research Institute (February 19), opening the Energy AI Research Institute (March 9), signing a business agreement with Infoworks (March 24), establishing and opening the Tmax AI Development Center (March 31), signing a business agreement with Delstar Hommel (April 7), opening the Saltlux Gwangju AI Center (April 23), signing an agreement with Namu Technology (April 28), and now signing this business agreement with Hancom Group.
Kim Sang-chul, Chairman of Hancom Group, said, “We are accelerating our AI business with AI voice recognition translation devices, intelligent service robots, AI call centers, and recently promoting academy projects with the world’s number one drone company. Hancom Group is rapidly emerging in the AI drone field,” adding, “We will actively cooperate so that Gwangju can leap forward as a world-class AI city.”
Mayor Lee Yong-seop said, “Artificial intelligence is a core element of national competitiveness in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, and Gwangju dreams of a world-class AI ecosystem,” and added, “If the competitiveness of Hancom Group, which is leading the 4th Industrial Revolution, is combined with Gwangju’s infrastructure, innovative mindset, and potential, I am confident that we can create synergy beyond our imagination.”

He continued, “We will create a ‘Gwangju AI ecosystem’ involving 1.5 million Gwangju citizens and realize a ‘business-friendly industrial peace city’ where various institutions and companies can achieve their dreams in Gwangju.”
