Reports Related to 5·18 Transferred to the '5·18 Truth Investigation Committee'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Ahead of the 40th anniversary of the May 18 Democratic Movement, a total of 210 cases of victim and perpetrator reports have been received by the May 18 Memorial Foundation and the Gwangju Metropolitan City May 18 Truth Verification Integrated Reporting Center.
These reports will be transferred to the May 18 Truth Verification Investigation Committee for the purpose of uncovering the truth about May 18.
According to the May 18 Memorial Foundation on the 7th, out of the total 210 cases received, 155 were submitted to the May 18 Memorial Foundation and 55 to Gwangju City.
By type, there are 13 cases of disappearance, 48 cases of secret burial, 37 cases of helicopter shooting and firing, 8 cases of excessive suppression, 6 cases of sexual violence, and 98 other cases.
The May 18 Truth Verification Investigation Committee is scheduled to begin the investigation on the 11th, following the order to commence the investigation.
The committee plans to divide the investigation into three internal organizations to handle constitutional destruction acts such as firing orders, disappearances, secret burials, and distortions.

Meanwhile, the May 18 Truth Verification Investigation Committee, launched at the end of December 2019 under the "Special Act for Truth Verification" enacted in September 2018, aims to leave its findings as a national report and focus on reconciliation and prevention of recurrence.
