The newly appointed Economic Policy Secretary, Lee Ok-won, was born in 1967 and graduated from Kyungshin High School in Seoul, Seoul National University with a degree in Economics, and holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Missouri State University in the United States. He passed the 35th Administrative Examination and has served as Director General of the Economic Policy Bureau and Director General of the Economic Structural Reform Bureau at the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Additionally, he has served as Chair of the WTO Domestic Regulation Working Group and as Minister-Counselor at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations.
