Gyeonggi-do Managed Private Road Uiwang Rest Area Also Joins the 'Good Rent Movement'
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Uiwang Rest Area on the Seosuwon-Uiwang Expressway will participate in the 'Good Rent Movement.' The Seosuwon-Uiwang Expressway is a privately funded expressway managed by Gyeonggi Province.
As of March, the monthly sales of tenants at the Uiwang Rest Area have decreased by about 30% compared to last year due to COVID-19.
Gas station sales dropped by 30%, convenience stores by 24%, and food courts by about 28% compared to the same month last year.
Accordingly, the province decided, after consultation with the Uiwang Rest Area operator, to temporarily reduce rent by 30% for three months from March to May this year. With this measure, 12 companies currently operating within the Uiwang Rest Area will benefit from a total rent reduction worth approximately 69 million KRW.
A provincial official stated, "We decided on this rent reduction measure to ease the burden on small business owners facing difficulties due to COVID-19 and to provide normal services to users," adding, "We hope this measure will serve as a starting point for the recovery of the local economy."
Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province has been promoting various support measures utilizing the Uiwang Rest Area, a multi-use facility, to overcome COVID-19.
