36 Haenam-gun Public Projects Selected, Securing 15.1 Billion KRW in National and Provincial Funds
Full-scale Effort to Promote Large-scale Public Projects in the Second Half of the Year
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 6th that it has been selected for 36 public contest projects conducted by central government ministries, Jeollanam-do, and other external organizations this year, securing 15.1 billion KRW in national and provincial funds.
This amount is 3.5 billion KRW more than the same period last year, marking a remarkable achievement in securing regional development momentum through active attraction of public contest projects.
Major selected projects up to last month include the aged water supply maintenance project (10 billion KRW), the 2020 Rural Return and Fishing Village Stay-type Support Center construction project (1.5 billion KRW), and the vulnerable area living condition improvement project (1.6 billion KRW).
The aged water supply maintenance project involves investing a total of 20 billion KRW to reconstruct the Haenam Water Purification Plant, which is 40 years old, into a modern facility by 2023.
In particular, since it can be implemented simultaneously with the aged water pipeline network maintenance project, which was confirmed in 2019 and has a total project cost of 33.1 billion KRW, it is expected to be a breakthrough opportunity for the modernization of the local water supply system in Haenam.
The Rural Return and Fishing Village Stay-type Support Center construction project will invest 3 billion KRW, including 1.5 billion KRW in provincial funds, to support prospective rural returnees and fishing village residents to live with their families for a certain period and prepare for rural return.
In Dunju-ri, Gyegok-myeon, where the Haenam-gun Rural Return and Migration Hope Center is located, stay-type housing, educational facilities, community practice farms, and multipurpose community facilities such as childcare rooms, lounges, libraries, and fitness rooms will be established and operated.
The vulnerable area living condition improvement project, led by the National Balanced Development Committee, will create Saetteul villages in two locations: Gwandong-ri, Hwasan-myeon, and Yerak-ri, Munnae-myeon.
In these two villages, a total of 4 billion KRW will be invested by 2022 to improve village roads and drainage, and to enhance living conditions in vulnerable areas with vacant houses.
The increase in public contest project selections is attributed to the establishment of a public contest T/F team this year and the creation of a support system for overall management and project discovery for various public contests.
As the importance of public contest projects to secure regional development momentum grows, Haenam-gun is the only local government in the province operating a dedicated public contest department, actively collaborating with project departments.
Accordingly, the application rate has also recorded a significant increase of 30 projects, or 71%, compared to the same period last year.
Since the foundation for attracting public contest projects has been laid this year, the county aims to proactively respond to large-scale public contests in the second half of the year and achieve tangible results in securing national and provincial funds.
In the second half of this year, plans include applying for large-scale public contests such as the Urban Regeneration New Deal Project, the 2021 Jeonnam-type Regional Growth Strategy Project, and the Regional-linked Advanced CT Demonstration Project (R&D), with meticulous preparations for final selection.
Additionally, the county will continuously monitor new projects whose schedules and details have not yet been finalized and actively discover projects beneficial to residents through close consultations with project departments.
