RS Automation Selected for Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's 'Core Technology Development for Electronic Components Industry' Project
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] RS Automation, a specialist in robot motion and energy control, announced on the 6th that it has been selected for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's 'Core Technology Development Project for the Electronic Components Industry.' Following its selection last year as a promising small and medium-sized enterprise in materials, parts, and equipment by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, RS Automation is determined to establish itself as a technology company based on the localization of core components in the robot motion field.
RS Automation's current project is titled "Development of an Embedded Automation System with Enhanced Security Features Based on Standards for Smart Factories," with an investment of approximately 3.2 billion KRW over about 33 months. Building on its accumulated robot motion technology, the company aims to implement the first domestic automation system equipped with the international standard IEC62443 security features. The development goal is to realize a fully secured automation system prepared for unmanned and intelligent operations in the post-COVID-19 era.
In particular, although contactless (untact) systems have become common after COVID-19, recent issues such as system hacking have raised security concerns in information technology (IT) and video conferencing systems. Consequently, large corporations are tending to avoid using such products, and international security standards have become essential in automation systems as well.

Kang Deok-hyun, CEO of RS Automation, stated, "In a situation where automation and unmanned operations are considered necessities rather than options after COVID-19, products without verified security face difficulties in exports and sales to large corporations due to risks of hacking and confidential information leaks. This urgency was recognized, leading to our selection for this national project." He added, "We have already signed purchase-conditional contracts with the largest U.S. automation company Rockwell Automation, domestic large corporations, and semiconductor and display equipment manufacturers, and are developing various products."
