Students in Mapo-gu! Learn Chinese at Home... A Language Journey with Yonsei University
Online Classes Due to COVID-19... 10 Sessions from May 26 to July 30... Tuesday and Thursday Classes Using Children's Chinese Textbooks for Beginner and Elementary Courses
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) announced that the "Mapo-gu and Yonsei University Online Chinese Program for Elementary School Students" will be held 10 times from May 26 to July 30.
This Chinese program will be conducted via real-time video lectures considering the difficulty of face-to-face education due to COVID-19.
A total of 36 elementary school students will be recruited, with 18 students in the Tuesday class and 18 in the Thursday class. To enhance concentration during online lectures, each class will be divided into small groups of 6 students.
Lectures will be held for 90 minutes from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM and will be conducted by both native speakers and Korean professional instructors. Participating students will systematically learn beginner and elementary courses using children's Chinese textbooks. However, due to the nature of online lectures, students must have a laptop or a computer equipped with a webcam and microphone to attend.
The program is open to 3rd to 6th graders residing in Mapo-gu, and applications can be submitted through the Mapo-gu Office website from May 7 to May 17. Participants will be selected by lottery, and the results can be checked on the website on May 22.
The participation fee is 300,000 KRW per person, of which half, 150,000 KRW, must be paid by the participant, and the remaining 150,000 KRW will be supported by the district. Children from low-income families, such as basic livelihood security recipients, will have their participation fee fully covered.
For other inquiries related to the program, contact the Mapo-gu Education Support Division for guidance.
