View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Son Sunhee] President Moon Jae-in is scheduled to appoint Park Soo-kyung, a professor at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) (47, photo), as the Presidential Secretary for Science and Technology on the 4th, the Blue House announced.
Kang Min-seok, spokesperson for the Blue House, stated in a written briefing that "Park, the new science and technology secretary, is the first female professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at KAIST and has been actively conducting research in the field of biomechanics, studying the mechanical properties of biological systems." He added, "She is also recognized for her policy participation experience, having served as a member of the National Science and Technology Advisory Council." He further noted, "She is expected to contribute to accelerating innovation in science, technology, and ICT by closely engaging with the field."

Park, the new science and technology secretary, graduated from Seoul Science High School and the Department of Mechanical Engineering at KAIST, earned a master's degree in mechanical engineering from the same university, and obtained a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan, USA. She has served as a research fellow at Harvard University-affiliated hospital, senior researcher at the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials, and member of the National Science and Technology Advisory Council. She is currently a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at KAIST.
